Maryland's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announces its fall trout stocking locations. DNR Fisheries Service staff have released more than 57,000 hatchery-raised adult rainbow and brown trout into selected fishing areas as part of the department's on-going efforts to provide and promote outdoor recreational activities to all Marylanders. Stocking began in September and was completed last week. Nearly 7,000 more fish were stocked this season than last.
Some of these trout are holdover trout, averaging one-half pound apiece and more than 12 inches long. Due to low stream flows, most of the stocking was limited to larger lakes, ponds and rivers. Anglers are reminded that a valid Maryland fishing license and trout stamp are required to possess trout caught in Maryland, excluding anglers under the age of 16.

DNR's trout stocking program is funded entirely by the sale of freshwater fishing licenses and trout stamps, and federal Sportfish Restoration Program (Wallop-Breaux) funds which are generated by anglers and boaters' tax dollars.
