Save the Bay to Adopt Clean the Bay

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), whose motto “Save the Bay” has become a familiar slogan in the region, has announced it will be assuming coordination responsibilities for the annual Clean the Bay Day in Virginia.

“Clean the Bay Day has long been a successful cleanup project in Hampton Roads under the able leadership of Robert Dean,” said CBF Virginia Executive Director Joseph H. Maroon. “Without his leadership, there would be no Clean the Bay Day. Now with Robert’s retirement this year, CBF is excited to take the baton from him and continue this significant volunteer project.”

With Virginia offices in Norfolk, Richmond and Alexandria, CBF’s plan is eventually to expand Clean the Bay Day beyond the immediate Hampton Roads/Middle Peninsula areas and include stream cleanups across Virginia’s Bay watershed in the annual event. CBF will soon be advertising to hire a part-time coordinator to manage the event and work with local cleanup coordinators across the region.

“We salute the Clean the Bay Day leaders, board members and the many, many volunteers who participate in this annual project and look forward to working with them all in the coming years,” Maroon said.
