Grant Money Now Available To Promote Community Boating Safety

The BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water is offering grants of up to $5,000 for local boating safety projects. The Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 to 300 non-profit organizations across the U.S. in the last twelve years. Safety education campaigns funded last year included boating safety events and posters, signs, brochures, billboards and cinema advertising to promote safe boating.

The grant application, including guidelines and instructions, can be downloaded from www.BoatUS.com/foundation or is available by calling Vanessa Pert at 410- 897-0949. All application packets must be postmarked and all on-line applications must be submitted to the Foundation by Friday, November 2, 2001.

"Every boating area in the U.S. has unique characteristics and safety issues," said Vanessa Pert, grant administrator for the BoatU.S. Foundation. "This program rewards local groups that have the initiative and creativity to educate their community about responsible boating." The grants will be awarded in January 2002. Funding for the awards comes from the donations by the 530,000 members of BoatU.S., the world's largest organization of recreational boaters.
