The Department of Natural Resources’ Clean Marina Initiative is offering grant funding for items such as wash water recycling systems, vacuum sanders, vegetated shoreline buffers, and oil spill response kits. Marinas in selected watersheds are invited to apply for grant funding to purchase and install these pollution prevention measures. All of the eligible projects will minimize the release of nutrients, suspended solids, petroleum and/or toxic chemicals into adjacent waterways.
The grants will cover up to 75 percent of associated costs. Projects are limited to marine facilities in 6 priority watersheds: Isle of Wight Bay, Newport Bay, Chincoteague Bay, Middle Chester River, Sassafras River, and Stillpond-Fairlee Creeks. These watersheds were identified through an interagency process as being in need of either restoration or protection.
To obtain application materials online, please visit the clean marina website, www.dnr.state.md.us/boating/cleanmarina or call the Clean Marina office at 410-260-8773. The application deadline is December 13, 2002.
