Boonsboro angler Kevin Gladhill beat a MD yellow perch state record that has stood for nearly 20 years, while ice fishing in Deep Creek Lake on Saturday.
Gladhill, 24, caught the 2 lb., 6 and ¾ oz fish in 10 feet of water after jigging a Rapala plug tipped with maggots. The fish was 15 inches long, had a girth of 12.5 inches, and exceeded the record by 3/4 ounce.
Maryland Department of Natural Resources biologist John Mullican certified the angler’s catch at Wolfe's on the Square in Williamsport. Mullican was also on scene during the catch.
The previous record was fish weighed 2 lbs. 6 oz. and was also caught at Deep Creek Lake on June 8, 1983.
