Good Firewood Still Available At Greenbrier State Park
Now that wintry weather has arrived, fireplaces and wood-burning stoves will once again be pressed into service to warm homes throughout the state. To keep these friendly fires burning requires lots of wood. Fortunately, cheap but good firewood is still available at Greenbrier State Park. A firewood permit to cut one cord of wood costs just $21, which includes tax. The park had a timber company remove all large trees that Hurricane Isabel toppled or left leaning. The remaining trees, a mix of hardwoods but primarily oak, are lying on the ground and ready to be cut into firewood; most of the wood is green. Firewood permits can be purchased at the Visitors Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The address of the park is 21843 National Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713. For more information, please telephone Greenbrier State Park at 301-791-4767.
