The Maryland Greenways Commission and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced the winners of their Photo Contest 2000: Celebrating Maryland's Greenways and Parks.

"Over 300 beautiful and compelling photographs were submitted from a vast array of Maryland's photographers, amateur and professional, the young and the young at heart," said Lisa Gutierrez, Executive Director or the Maryland Greenways Commission.
The first place award, right, a prize of $1,000, was awarded to Mr. Andy Carruthers, a mountain biker-turned-nature-photographer from Greenbelt, for his photo titled "From Cameroon to Catoctin."
The second place winners, below, (a three-way tie) receive a prize of $250 each. Awards were given to Marjorie White of Finksburg, for her photo titled, "Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation"; Mr. Alan W. Grubb of Baltimore, for his photo, "The C&O Canal at Little Pool"; and Ms. Norine Rowe of Lusby, for her photo, "The Cliffs of Calvert."
Each of the third place winners, below, (also a three-way tie) receive a one-year pass to Maryland State Parks (a $50 value). Awards were given to: Ms. Natalie Nadozirny of Baltimore, for her photo, "Cunningham Falls State Park"; Ms. Sarah B. Davidson of Rising Sun, for her photo, titled "Snow in March"; and Mr. Gregory W. Blank of Westminster, for his photo, "Rock Burn Branch."

Finalists' photos are on public display in DNR's Carter Library in Annapolis from Feb. 21 through March 21. The top seven photos may also be viewed on the DNR web site, www.dnr.state.md.us.
