PFIESTERIA PISCICIDA - 9/97...BNR
I know, this is not a very pretty picture -- but it is one everybody needs
to see. If you are not from Maryland, Virginia or North Carolina, you may
not have heard about Pfiesteria. Pfiesteria piscicida is a recently discovered,
potentially toxic microorganism found in nutrient rich waters. Already
responsible for killing a billion fish in North Carolina and tens of thousands
this year alone in two Cheasapeake Bay tributaries, this science fiction
like killer is a threat to be taken seriously. But through education, understanding,
some patience, and some common sense, it is a problem that can be dealt
with. Here is
more information...please take a few minutes to educate yourself. |

Land of the Midnight Sun

What a trip! A week in Alaska full of fishing. Oh, and a little bit of
work along the way. We probably caught 20 silver salmon and a bunch of
sea bass. Three days fishing out of Seward, AK and two days working in
Anchorage, AK really wore us all out. Not to mention having to sleep in
the truck so we could fish on Friday. This is a picture of Aialik Glacier
in the Kenai Fjords National Park.
Beautiful country, but I couldn't live there. Here
is a fish picture. |

Camden
Leigh Raines, born April 2, 1997 and weighing in at 8 lbs. 5 oz. and on
opening day I might add,has started WALKING! Yes, Camden was named after
the home of our beloved Baltimore Orioles -- Camden Yards. By the way,
the Orioles won on opening day about 30 minutes before Camden made her
arrival. Isn't she cute? She's getting so big -- Camden's
newborn picture. |

Happenings on St. Leonard's Creek
- 8/6/98...BNR
This summer has proven to be as glorious as the last. The fishing has been fantastic, the
crabbing was good early on but has slowed some as the summer has progressed. We still get
enough to stick the pot real good and make a mess of the porch and that is all that
matters. The new Polar 1796 skiff has been a tremendous addition to the arsenal of toys. And as always you can put on a wetsuit
and hop on a waverunner. Both jet skis are running great and providing
endless hours of mind numbing fun. Check out the specs on these animals...Yamaha
3-person WaveRunner.

Brian can now also be known as N3XWJ. He got his amateur radio operators license at the end of July. Now the rest of you have to get your "tickets and rigs" so he can have someone to talk to. He is usually found hanging out on the Waldorf, MD 2m repeater (145.35 mhz with a negative offset) or the Southern Maryland Amateur Radio Club 2m repeater (147.15 with a positive offset). |

Kasey Growing UP - 5/98...BNR
It's
hard to believe, but Kasey is about to finish up her second year of pre-school.
She is getting to be such a little girl. But she will always be my
baby.
She dons her wetsuit at the beach and heads out on the jet-ski (under supervision of course)! Daddy let's her steer and it is even reported that Popsie lets her throttle the gas. She'll be spinning circles around all of us in no time - and training Camden to do the same. I just wish she would start picking her own crabs and leave my backfins alone. |

'98 Beach Trip -- BIG success!
- 7/98...BNR
'98
Trip Report - We got 2 houses this year, right on the beach. It was
a perfect setup, in fact, we have pre-reserved the same two for next year.
The trip highlight for me has to be my first ever blue marlin! Estimated
at 250-300 lbs, it was quite a battle lasting at least 45 minutes.
Once again aboard the "Boss Lady" out of Oregon Inlet. We also caught
our limit of dolphin, including 2 gaffers that went 35-40 lbs each.
We also did well with the puppy drum on the catwalk over the inlet.
The beach weather was perfect and a good time was had by all...and I am
the reigning ping-pong champion!
'97 Trip Report - Wow! Did we have a great time or what? The weather was pretty good, we caught a boatload of fish, and the hot tub even got cleaned once. Sorry we didn't warn everyone about the nude beach so close by...but we thought it best. Pictures forthcoming...stay tuned. And to top it all off, Kasey won the first annual mini-golf outing...hey, this is my web page and I say she won. This is a picture of last year's beach house, pre-Hurricane Bertha. Want to know more about the Outer Banks of NC? |
|||
8/98 - Looks like this year's trip is being planned for October, not November. At least that is the plan right now, stay posted - it could change at any time. 12/97 Trip report - Lots more fish this year than last and a lot less driving. The weather was much better. We caught lots of blues, some puppy drum and a flounder or two. Can't wait until next year! 11/96 Trip report - We left Thursday the 14th and fished through Sunday the 17th. Of course, these dates coincided with gale warnings and high seas on the Outer Banks of NC. Only one fish was caught, a black drum about 18 inches. We stayed in Nags Head, but mostly fished Hatteras. To sum the trip up; 950 miles of driving on and off the beach, a lot of wind, a lot of sand, a lot of lost rigs in the heavy surf, did I mention the wind?, and most important...a lot of fun! Can't wait until next time... |

Fishin' Report - 8/98...BNR
The fishing in the creek has been outstanding this year. We haven't spent much time on the river
or in the Bay this year, but when fall rock season opens that will all change. We have caught so
many oversized white perch in the creek, it's been hard to turn them down. During our annual junket to
Oregon Inlet during vacation I finally managed to get my marlin. It was a blue estimated at 250-300 lbs.
It had been a long time coming and it was truly a magnificent experience. This picture is several years old and shows the results of one of our first trips out of Oregon Inlet. |

"There is nothing-absolutely nothing-half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's the charm of it. Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you've done it there's always something else to do, and you can do it if you like, but you'd much better not." - Kenneth Grahame, Wind in the Willows |
